Why Bin Locations Are Important
- Improved Organization: Ensures items are stored systematically, reducing search time.
- Faster Order Fulfillment: Enables quick and accurate picking of products.
- Inventory Accuracy: Simplifies tracking and reduces the chances of misplaced items.
Tools and Supplies Needed
- EasyScan App: Installed and connected to Shopify.
- Metro Racks: Labeled with rack, side, and shelf identifiers.
- Plastic Bins: Labeled with the last three digits of the product SKU.
Step 1: Access the Bin Location Setter Page
- Log into Shopify and open the EasyScan app.
- Navigate to the Bin Location Setter page using this link: Bin Location Setter.
Step 2: Understand the Bin Location Format
Bin locations are structured using the following format:
- R1-B-S2:
- R1: Rack 1
- B: Side B (back of the rack)
- S2: Shelf 2
Each rack is labeled numerically, with sides A (front) and B (back). Shelves are labeled sequentially.
Step 3: Assigning Bin Locations
- Find or Create a Bin:
- Locate the plastic bin corresponding to the last three digits of the SKU.
- If no bin exists, create a new bin and label it accordingly.
- Place the Bin:
- Position the bin on the appropriate Metro Rack shelf based on the bin location format.
- Verify the placement matches the bin location label on the shelf.
Step 4: Record Bin Locations in Shopify
- Set the Bin Location:
- In the EasyScan app, search for the product by SKU.
- Enter the bin location in the designated field using the correct format (e.g., R2-A-S1).
- Save the Changes:
- Confirm the bin location entry and save the changes.
- Verify that the bin location is accurately reflected in the system.
Step 5: Finding an Existing Bin Location
- Access the Product List:
- Navigate to the EasyScan product page using this link: EasyScan Product List.
- Scan the Item:
- Use a barcode scanner to scan the item’s barcode.
- Locate the Bin Information:
- Check the left side of the product list. If a bin location is listed, it indicates where the product is currently stored.
- Update if Necessary:
- If the product is missing a bin location or the location is incorrect, update it following the steps in Step 4.
Step 6: Maintain Accuracy
- Regular Audits:
- Periodically check bin locations to ensure items are correctly placed and labeled.
- Update Changes:
- If a bin location changes due to reorganization, update the new location in Shopify immediately.
- Train Employees:
- Ensure all staff understand the bin location system and how to use it effectively.
Additional Notes
- Use barcode labels on shelves to ensure bin locations are easy to scan and reference.
- Report any discrepancies or missing bins to a supervisor promptly.
